Ashley Cole has been charged with misconduct by the Football Association in relation to a Twitter comment he posted about the governing body.
Responding to the FA's judgement in the John Terry racism case, he tweeted on Friday: "Hahahahaa, well done #fa I lied did I, #BUNCHOFT***S".
The Chelsea full-back was due to report for England duty on Monday.
He has until 16:00 BST on Thursday, 11 October to respond to the misconduct charge.

A brief statement on the FA's website read: "Ashley Cole has been charged by The FA in relation to a Twitter comment which was improper and/or brought the game into disrepute."
Cole's tweet, which he later deleted, came after his evidence to an independent FA commission which found John Terry guilty of racially insulting Anton Ferdinand during a match between Chelsea and QPR last season - an offence Westminster Magistrates' Court previously cleared the centre-back of - was queried.
And former England captain Alan Shearer told the BBC at the weekend that Cole should be banned for Friday's World Cup qualifier against San Marino as punishment.
"The FA can make a big statement by not fining but banning him on Friday versus San Marino," he said.
Cole, 31, then responded by retweeting a message which criticised Shearer.
It read: "Alan Shearer says @TheRealAC3 needs to be banned for comments. I want his opinion on bans for kicking Neil Lennon in the head. #GlassHouses."
He has since removed the retweet, which alluded to an incident in 1998 involving Shearer and Lennon, now manager of Celtic, when the pair were playing for Newcastle and Leicester respectively.
Shearer, now a BBC Match of the Day pundit, was found not guilty of deliberately kicking Lennon in the face.
Speaking on Match of the Day, Shearer added: "We've seen players fined £50,000, £60,000, £70,000. That's not a deterrent to them.
"Stopping them from playing football will be a deterrent. If they do it quickly - which they haven't done in the case, which has taken 14 months - if they do it in four to five days, I think it puts a big statement out to the rest of the players.''
Cole has won 98 England caps and could reach the 100-mark if he appears in the forthcoming World Cup qualifiers against San Marino and Poland.
