Rolf Harris arrived at court with his daughter Bindi and wife Alwen Hughes

Rolf Harris assaulted the teenage friend of his daughter in her bedroom while her parents were downstairs, a court has heard.

After the alleged assault, Mr Harris "started laughing and joking with everybody", she told Southwark Crown Court.

The woman, who cannot be named, says Mr Harris abused her from the age of 13.

The TV presenter and artist, 84, denies 12 counts of indecently assaulting her and three other girls from 1968-86.

His alleged victims were aged between seven or eight and 19 when the offences are said to have taken place.

Seven of the 12 counts are alleged to have been carried out on the woman, who lived near the Harris family in south London in the 1960s.

The woman, who was friends with Mr Harris's daughter Bindi, said it would make her feel "anxious and panic-stricken" when she knew he would be coming around to her house.

Mr Harris's "sheer presence" worried her, said the alleged victim, who was 15 at the time. She also told the court she was scared of Mr Harris from a young age.

The woman, who gave evidence from behind a screen, drank what she described as "a shedload of gin" before his visit, to calm herself down, the court heard.

She was also assaulted by Mr Harris in the television room at her home on another occasion, the jury was told.

The alleged assaults at her house are said to have taken place following a holiday the girl went on with the Harris family, having been invited by Bindi.

'Creepy hug'

She was 13 at the time she says Mr Harris assaulted her in a Hawaii hotel room when she was only wearing a towel, having just got out of the shower.

The alleged hotel room assault was before such offences abroad could be prosecuted in the UK.

The woman, said Mr Harris gave her a "pretty creepy" hug before the assault in a Hawaii hotel.

"The way he hugged you and touched you all over, it was cringey," she told the court.

She told the jury she was only wearing a towel at the time of the assault and that Mr Harris told her she was "lovely".

"I just thought: 'Oh my God, what's happening?'," said the woman, the first prosecution witness to appear in the trial.

The assault lasted for a few seconds, after which Mr Harris acted as if nothing had happened, the court heard.

The alleged victim said she did not tell Bindi or Mr Harris's wife Alwen Hughes.

"I was shocked and panicked by it," she said. "I didn't know what to do. I sat on the end of the bed in a state of shock, really."

Mr Harris also assaulted her after she had been snorkelling while on the same holiday, the court heard.

He is alleged to have touched the teenager inappropriately as he was wrapping a towel around her after she came out of the sea.

Asked by prosecutor Sasha Wass QC if she had considered shouting at Mr Harris to stop, she replied that as an "excruciatingly shy" child she did not want to "cause mayhem".

Mr Harris, from Bray in Berkshire, entered a not guilty plea at an earlier hearing.
